During the summer of 1984, Mr. Felix Burgos, Jr. and his wife, along with another couple received and listened to a copy of a testimony of a Christian woman to whom God had shown heaven and hell. Having been raised Catholic throughout their lives there was a bit of skepticism. They learned that the woman on the cassette and her husband were the Pastors of a church in New Jersey. Their curiosity got the best of them and they decided to make the trip to New Jersey and visit their church.
Their visit to New Jersey was a life changing experience that left them hungry for more of God and they began visiting Christian churches local to Connecticut, and as their faith and love for God grew Felix Burgos chose to attend a seminary. After visiting many churches but never finding one that compared to their first experience, Felix Burgos began hosting weekly prayer meetings in his home and was soon joined by more people with the same hunger for God. Shortly after, Felix Burgos was appointed as their leader and Pastor, and God’s Army Christian Church was established.
After several years as a home-based church, Felix Burgos moved the congregation to their first sanctuary on 1312 State Street in Bridgeport Connecticut. After a few years the pastors decided to change the name of the church to God’s Victorious Army Christian Church (currently known as City Wide Christian Church). Due to local politics the church was displaced by the City of Bridgeport and the congregation temporarily resumed meeting in the pastors’ home for service until they eventually relocated to 857 Howard Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Felix Burgos served as Pastor of God’s Victorious Army Christian Church until he passed away in 2008 on February 14th.
Currently, his son, Luis Burgos serves as the senior Pastor of City Wide Christian Church. Pastor Luis Burgos has been pastoring since 2008. He is happily married to Yesenia Burgos, who also serves on the worship team, and together they have three beautiful daughters, Aria Grace, Myla Faith and Emmi Joy.
We have seen God move in such a mighty way and bring a great harvest of souls and believers into our church! City Wide Church stands as a “mobile church” designed to bring the Gospel anywhere and everywhere! We chose to go mobile in 2013 as we outgrew our building at 857 Howard Avenue Bridgeport Connecticut 06605. As a mobile church, we started off at Bassick High school every Sunday winning souls for Christ until the Lord blessed us with, Klein Memorial Auditorium in Bridgeport, for a while, and now we are back at our home location having two services, accommodating early risers and the traditional service attendees.
This best fulfills the vision God has given our church as of now, as we wait for our new church home. Welcome to City Wide Church we are glad you are here on this journey to reach our God given destiny!
